Yeshua – The Image of the Invisible God
Here is the Mandarin translation of the song lyrics that I have included for our Chinese listeners, presented line by line with simplified Chinese characters.
Yeshua the Image of the Invisible God: 耶稣—不可见的上帝之形象
Yēshū — bù kějiàn de Shàngdì zhī xíngxiàng今夜,寂静充盈着这神圣的天地 Silence fills this sacred space tonight
Chasing shadows with a soft light
Searching for the anchor in the storm
Finding peace where aching hearts reform
Every breath is like a quiet prayer
In the stillness, you are always there
Looking for the center in the dark
You are where the healing stars
Where is my sweet Yeshua?
Center of my restless soul
Where is my sweet Yeshua?
Making broken spirits whole
Step into the quiet of the room
Letting go of every heavy gloom
Focusing on where the spirit rests
In the stillness, you are manifest
Where is my sweet Yeshua?
Center of my restless soul
Where is my sweet Yeshua?
Making broken spirits whole
Right here in this beautiful stillness
I have found where you are
Colossians:
Summary: Colossians 1:15–29 — Yeshua, the Image of the Invisible God
In Colossians 1:15–29, the Apostle Paul presents Yeshua (Jesus), the Messiah, as supreme over all creation, the visible and invisible, and the One through whom all things were created and in whom everything holds together. He is not merely a spiritual teacher or intermediary, but the perfect revelation of the invisible God. As the firstborn over all creation, He possesses supreme authority, honour and pre-eminence.
Against the background of Colossae’s diverse religious and cultural environment, Paul emphasises the absolute sufficiency of Messiah. Believers do not need additional spiritual powers, secret knowledge or alternative religious systems. Yeshua is the Creator, Sustainer and Lord of all things, and He must have first place in their lives.
The passage then turns to the wonder of God’s saving purpose. Through Yeshua’s incarnation, sacrificial death on the cross and glorious resurrection, humanity can be reconciled to God. Although sin has separated humanity from its Creator, Messiah has opened the way to forgiveness, restored fellowship and new life. This is the heart of the Good News.
Paul also describes his calling to proclaim the fullness of God’s Word, making known the mystery of His saving purpose. This mystery includes the reconciliation of Jews and Gentiles, who become fellow heirs and members of one body in Messiah. It does not mean that God has rejected Israel or replaced the Jewish people with the Gentile Church. Rather, God’s covenant faithfulness embraces His purposes for Israel while extending the riches of Messiah to the nations.
This has particular significance when considering Christian attitudes towards Judaism and the Jewish people. Jesus, His disciples, Paul and the earliest believers were themselves Jewish. Conflicts recorded in the New Testament must therefore be understood within their historical and Jewish context, rather than used to condemn Jews or Judaism collectively. Christians must guard against anti-Judaism and recognise the unity of Jews and Gentiles in Messiah, who breaks down the dividing wall and establishes His shalom, or peace.
Finally, Paul’s ministry demonstrates the importance of perseverance, sacrificial service and spiritual maturity. Despite suffering, he rejoiced in serving others, working through the power of the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Gospel and build up believers in their faith. His example challenges all Christians—whether ministers, missionaries, evangelists or ordinary believers—to share the Good News and help others grow in their knowledge of Messiah.
Yeshua is supreme over creation, sufficient for our salvation and central to God’s reconciling purpose for humanity. We are called to remain faithful to Him, grow towards spiritual maturity, build relationships across cultural and religious divisions, and proclaim the Good News with humility, love and perseverance.
The Central Message
The concluding reflection on moving forward in life adds a practical dimension: we should acknowledge the hurts of the past, learn from our experiences and, when ready, move forward rather than allow yesterday’s pain to rob us of tomorrow’s opportunities and joys.
